Aikido Shapes: our framework for effecting change
Our framework for effecting change draws on the shapes of Aikido. The shapes express stages of energy and action.
△ Insight.
The triangle captures the moment of intention. It’s the point of entry, meeting the situation in its current state and positioning from a stable stance to set initiative in motion.
In practice, this includes systems mapping, drawing lessons from evidence and experience and setting strategy and theories of change and measuring impact to inform better decisions.
○ Influence.
The circle embodies movement. It’s the fluid space where ideas interact, influence grows, and aligns around shared momentum.
In practice, this is where we mobilise our resources to amplify, shift or steer existing movement and direct it towards the change we seek. For example, leveraging government policy or financial investment to drive positive social outcomes.
□ Impact.
The square represents arrival. This is a grounded, stable foundation. It’s where actions lead to outcomes, lasting impact, and meaningful change.
In practice, this is the change we seek to effect. We support clients to achieve this through design, implementation and evaluation.
“The circle symbolises the spirit of harmony, the triangle symbolises the spirit of progress, and the square symbolises the spirit of solidity.”
- O Sensei, Morihei Ueshiba, Founder of Aikido
